Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare for marshalling
  2. Marshalling requirements for different aircraft types are determined and requirements are clarified as required
  3. Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and hazard management implemented
  4. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected and fitted
  5. Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements and recognised safety precautions are applied throughout the operation
  6. Allocated aircraft parking position is confirmed
  7. Marshalling, aircraft parking and ancillary support equipment are selected and checked for serviceability
  8. Relevant documentation is completed and processed in accordance with workplace procedures
  9. Establish/disestablish aircraft parking position
  10. Movement is conducted in a safe manner in accordance with workplace procedures
  11. Environmental factors are monitored to ensure safety is maintained
  12. Conduct aircraft marshalling
  13. Standard marshalling signals and/or communications are employed
  14. Visual contact with pilot, other aircrew and/or ground staff is maintained
  15. Safety distances between aircraft and ground personnel/obstructions are identified and maintained
  16. Emergency actions are conducted in an aircraft fire or other incident in accordance with workplace procedures
  17. Aircraft is secured/unsecured in accordance with workplace procedures
  18. Wind speed and direction are continually assessed for impact on marshalling operations
  19. Effects of aircraft ground turbulence on personnel and unsecured objects are taken into consideration
